Whether you swim, bike, run, or do all three, the repetitive motion’s rhythm and the post-exercise high are your ways of coping with life’s challenges. We all have those nagging aches and pains, but sometimes they get more persistent. You want to keep training past them, but that can have consequences that take you out of the sport for a longer period. The PEAAC’s goal is to keep you feeling that flow, without your body saying no.
The PEAAC offers many endurance/running-specific support services:
- A Sports Medicine Physician with experience in both acute and chronic/overuse injuries in endurance athletes.
- Running gait analysis to identify potential injury concerns.
- A well-equipped gym and studio that includes balance assessment, lateral and rotational strengthening with a functional trainer, squat rack and plates, kettlebells, wall balls/slam balls, plyo boxes.
- Access to strength and conditioning coaches to increase muscle support and flexibility.
- Work with physical therapists, chiropractors, and manual therapy practitioners to aid in relaxation and/or injury recovery.
- Consult with a nutritionist/dietician to better fuel your body for peak performance and avoid hitting the wall.
- Enhance body awareness and flexibility through Pilates, yoga, and other mindful movement classes.
- Improve mental skills to manage expectations, confidence, and injury resilience.
Dr. Sara Walker has worked the finish line medical tent for multiple Boston Marathons, among other short-track and long-track races. She is an avid race-walker (usually half marathons with an intent to train for a full marathon), who completely understands the mental anguish of not being able to train when she had a prolonged recovery in a walking boot for metatarsal stress injuries.
