At The PEAAC, Physical Therapy (PT) addresses the injuries or illnesses that limit a person’s ability to move and perform activities. A diagnosis is derived from an individual’s history and physical examination to determine which specific exercises, treatments, and prescriptions will prevent further injury and increase mobility/flexibility. Through a partnership formed between the Therapist and client, we can together craft a rehabilitation and strengthening plan that will best meet your goals to find peak performance.
Physical Therapy can include the following:
- Evaluation – The PT will assess your injury and develop a plan for treatment. This happens on the first visit.
- Treatment—Application of various techniques and interventions to encourage healing. This typically happens over a series of visits. Your PT will determine what the frequency and duration of visits will be in the evaluation.
- Prevention/Screening – Identification of weaknesses or deficiencies that are known to directly affect or act as an indicator of potential injury. This is especially helpful for competitive athletes during their off-season and can happen over one or two visits with the PT.
- Education—Once an evaluation is performed, specialist knowledge is shared with the athletes, their sport coaches, their strength coaches, and/or parents to prevent injury, manage injury, or optimize performance. Education can also happen in a more general community setting where the PT educates a team or club on injury prevention based on common patterns for their age group or sport.
